by Jane B Gibson at Cornerways - Kirkcudbright Jane Gibson was born of Scottish parents in Tasmania and moved to Kirkcudbright when she was nearly five years old. After Kirkcudbright Academy, Jane did teacher training in Art & Geography before taking on art fulltime. Following a foundation year at Cumbria College of Art & Design, she went on to do a degree course at Norwich School of Art which was the only venue in the country entertaining Wildlife illustration. After graduating Jane moved on to study Fashion & Textiles design which incorporated her love for illustration. She then worked as an Illustrator and Designer for some time in Norwich before returning to Kirkcudbright to take up painting as a full time occupation. In the intervening period of 20 years, Jane developed her work using a variety of mediums, and in a variety of styles to suit the preferences expressed by her customers. ... ''I particularly enjoy creating images in soft pastel, and landscapes in oil and watercolour.'' ... In 1984 Jane Gibson was elected Artist In Residence to the Dorothy L. Sayers Society, painting the Coat of Arms of Harriet Vane and Lord Peter Wimsey in the form of pendants, brooches and paperweights, which are sent all over the world to members. Following successful exhibitions of her Miniature paintings, she was elected member of both the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers (R.M.S.) and the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists (H.S.) ... ''In addition to my own work, I enjoy the challenge of commissions, which can include most subjects, from landscapesand still life to portraiture of children and animals in Miniature or in larger format. I am passionate about painting. I paint to live, and live to paint ... I am a Full Member of the Royal Miniature Society [London] only memberliving in Scotland a full member and member of the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists based in Wells. Somerset.
