G1:28 Clean Water Initiative

Help end the outrageous plight of...

Women and Children Who Spend
Up to 4 Hours DAILY Fetching Water.

Dear reader,

There's room for you in our
G1:28 Community of Supporters ... join us to bring a desperately needed change of lifestyle for thousands of villagers in developing countries - like those at Kajugangoma in Uganda.

My name is Ali Abubakar ...
co-management partner of G1:28 Clean Water Initiative with
Laura Newbury of Stirling, Scotland.

Our main function is in raising funds on behalf of Christian Engineers In Development (CED) - a small UK non-profit organisation that provides professional expertise to developing countries. Funds we raise are directed towards subsidising costs of providing...

  • Clean water supply to scattered villages in Uganda.

  • Improved sanitation, and

  • Programmes of health and hygiene education.
But before I tell you how you can join our Community of Supporters at G1:28 Clean Water Initiative, let me first tell you about the disadvantaged people we aim to serve.

Kajugangoma is only a typical example of disadvantaged communities in Uganda crying out for access to clean water - something you and I in developed countries probably take for granted. With a population of 3,500, Kajugangoma lies about 4 kilometres west of a small town of Kanungu at an altitude of 5000 feet above sea level. It's a very broken country with most of the population living in hamlets around the ridges.

According to CED the present sources of water consist of three unprotected springs which are not easily accessible - and there is a high incidence of water-bourne disease.

Women and children spend up to 4 hours daily fetching water, often involving steep climbs, laden with heavy water cans ... and there are two primary schools in this area.

But this is only one of the several water supply projects partners such as the Church of Uganda has applied for support from Christian Engineers In Development.

CED have been operating in this field for 25 years now. But CED are not in themselves a fund raising organisation - they are strictly professional service providers. Hence the need for external fund raising support as work on approved projects will only start when full amount of money covering estimated project cost has been found.

You can appreciate the magnitude of relief, change, convenience and comfort your collective contributions will bring to the lives of villagers like those of Kajugangoma (women and children in particular) - plus increased school attendance of course ... for good.

As a relatively new venture, we at G1:28 Clean Water Initiative have set out 3 relevant tasks for this purpose:

  1. To raise a greater awareness of existence and services CED are providing to needy communities in developing countries.

  2. To help raise funds that'll enable CED to start and complete clean water supply projects they have approved in Uganda. Some of these approved projects have been waiting for funds for several years.

  3. To build a community of supporters willing to help in way towards achieving above 2 aims - and there are many different ways in which you can help.
This is the main purpose of our message to you ... but before you do anything else, please help us with your generous donation to kick-start this initiative. Any size of donation will be gratefully received. Our very first three supporters gave us a £2 coin each - three teenage students ... we were delighted, of course.
