Artists' Interpretation of Janette Valentine's May 26 - June 20, 2007 Where Wild Garlic Grows Bowed down and grown weary of bleak city toils, Of noise and pollution and consumer spoils, I searched for a haven and verily chose One favoured by Nature, where wild garlic grows. The mountains stand sentinel, guarding my days, And lift my eyes heavenwards to sing and to praise The glory of Nature, her will to impose A timelessness here where the wild garlic grows. When jouneying far the wild swans come to call, To herald the spring and to witness the fall, I honour their sail past and solemn propose A toast from the banks where the wild garlic grows. The deer come to nibble my plants in the night, The owl and the bats celebrate the moonlight, The stars stud my windows and ere my eyes close I thankfully rest where the wild garlic grows. When winter’s upon us and thunder clouds roar, And savage winds race icy waves high on shore, I sit burning driftwood in seemly repose And dream of the season when the wild garlic grows. The thyme and the heather and sweet briar rose, The fruits of the forest, and God only knows, From dawn’s early calling until the dusk’s close My soul is at peace where the wild garlic grows. View Artwork The Gardens Of Benmore Oh come and wander with me in The gardens of Benmore, Through the avenue of redwoods With bounteous joys in store Where early spring Azaleas With honey scent the air And daffodils and sweet bluebells Are blooming everywhere. The trees that rest in nakedness Through winter’s frost and snow Sway gently like a manequin Their new gowns best to show Against the sturdy Douglas firs So delicate and fine Yet bearing buds to later fruit That birds may nobly dine. This season courting is their song, Their opera assures Appreciation from us as We heed their shrill amours Then let us dance a step or two To Echaig’s minuet And celebrate the springtime on This day we’ll ne’er forget. View Artwork Harmony of the Holy Loch A land of rainbows Arching over sea and mountains, A land as Nature intended With cormorants, curlews, Whimbrel, Turnstone, Oyster Catchers, Herring Gulls, Gannets and Herons Populating the skies, While the Loch harbours Seals and dolphins, Eider Ducks, Tufted Ducks, Teal, Widgeon, Dab Chicks, Red-Breasted Mergansers And graceful Swans And in its depths Mackerel, trout, Mullet, Cod, Dogfish and Conger. All with a hinterland of Thick forests, autumn fruits Red squirrels, midnight owls, Wild flowers, dainty bluebells Haughty foxgloves Hardy heather and thyme, A land of mystical mist Of sunsets and moonscapes Of starlight and untamed even song Our precious corner Of this beautiful ancient land. View Artwork A Walk In Puck's Glen We would not say goodbye We would walk And talk Through wooded slopes, Climbing high, Pausing to marvel At where trees Had shed their seeds To populate the lower ground In fertile soil. Our eyes lifted Following elegant spires Reaching to the sky Their premier plumes Celebrating the sunlight While shielding Their broken, gnarled under branches. The rippling tears of earlier storms Performed A crystal fountain symphony On ancient pebbled keys Reminding us we are But a passing whisper In timeless Nature’s scheme. We wandered down in silence We did not talk We would not say goodbye, We would remember. View Artwork Top | Exhibitions | Other Artists # 00007/006 |
