Paintings by Jake Jackson
Hi,
I am Jake Jackson based in Kilcreggan in Argyllshire, Scotland.
On this site you'll a small showcase of my landscape and seascape paintingsjust to give you an idea of the kind of paintings I produce. If you want any more information about my work you can easily contact me from any page on this site.
Here is a little information about my professional background: Shortcut to my Paintings I studied at Carlisle School of Art where I specialised in Painting and then at Liverpool School of Art.
In London I worked as photographer/designer for CBS Records mainly on Record Album covers.
I exhibited at various group shows in 60’s. Landscape prize from Royal Academy.
My interest in Early and Baroque music lead to playing in various groups and researching and making instruments, mainly plucked instruments such as lutes.
I moved to Sutherland in 1976 and focused more on painting influenced by local landscape and sea.
Moved to Hamble and worked on restoring classic yachts.
In 1984 I sailed to Antigua and worked on yacht restoration there.
Moved back to Sutherland and started painting again.
Ran a small community gallery for arts and crafts.
Solo exhibition in Eden Court.
1991 Moved to Renfewshire to open gallery/arts workshop facility.
Worked on video projects for Projectability in Glasgow.
1997 Worked for RNIB organising audio recording and video projects.
Recently I worked on video projects in theatre, corporate information and community arts.
I moved to Kilcreggan in 1997 and influenced by the proximity to the sea I have been painting as much as possible.
I have spent a lot of time living by the sea and trying to capture the particular light and movement in various ways. Photography has played a major part but at the moment painting is the most rewarding option. I find myself working towards a way of reflecting subtleties of colour and movement without being tied to portraying realistic pictorial elements.
