Sila Collins-Walden - Landscape and flowerscape artist
I was born in Manchester but spent a lot of my childhood in Ireland where my family originally came from. I always enjoyed doing creative things although I was never encouraged by my mother who thought being an artist as rather a silly “notion” and was only to be pursued as a hobby. I have a background in health care and whilst working in a large psychiatric hospital in Manchester in the late seventies had a chance encounter with a hospital arts team (headed by Brian Philips) who was brought in to enhance the rather drab corridors and wards. It was in that brief period that I decided to give up my job and go to college to embark on a Recreational Arts Course. Later I went on to take further studies in art and design and gained qualifications in that field. That was twenty-five years ago! I decided I wanted to make a career out of painting so I now spend nearly every day painting and preparing for exhibitions, running workshops and tutoring art classes here in the Highlands ... View Showcase In the nineties, I was instrumental in setting up an art project at Raigmore Hospital which is still on-going. I came to live in the Highlands of Scotland nearly nineteen years ago and just love the mountains and beautiful scenery in and around where I live. Often I travel to the West Coast of Scotland and the lovely Island of Skye. I take photographs and do sketches of mountains where most of my inspiration comes from. Then I finish them in my studio at home. I work mostly with acrylic and oils and occasionally watercolour from my studio in Inverness. I paint mostly landscapes and flowerscapes in a semi-representational style. My work can be seen at Leakey’s Bookshop and Gallery where I have organized exhibitions of work for the local art group. I have exhibited widely in the Highlands including at
