Christina Sargent lives in South Ronaldsay on the island of Orkney. She specialises in Felt wall pieces, Screenprinting, and art and music workshops. Christina spent her childhood in Glasgow before moving to london to study at the Royal Academy of Music. She worked professionally as a classical oboist for many years in Britain and abroad. In 1984 she began to develop a lifelong interest in the visual arts especially in textiles. Her fascination for nomadic cultures led her, after some spinning and weaving, to experiment with felt. In 1985 she moved with her husband Mike and their young family to Orkney to work a small organic farm there. Felt became her new creative outlet, providing great freedom for design and colour use. She dyed all her sheep fleeces with natural materials. After a few years the frustration with the random nature led her to begin to screenprint her designs and enjoy the clearer definitions. She is now doing both as well as developing her drawing and painting. Christina regularly makes felt wall pieces on commission basis, runs large workshops for local children and sells felts and prints from her studio gallery on the farm. She has exhibited widely through the years and has many pieces in private collection around the world. Her work can be seen at her studio and local galleries and shops.
