Barbara McMahon

I work in Scotland where I have lived all my life.

Late Spring Glencoe

My pages on this site will give you an insight into my art work and keep you up-to-date with current and forthcoming exhibitions in which I am involved.

I have always enjoyed creating things - crochet, knitting and sewing being among my hobbies. At times I have had the opportunity to design the items as well as making them ... costumes; props; paint stage scenery for the local drama group ... even an ocasional small role in some plays.

Now that I have 'retired' so to speak, I have more time to concentrate on my hobbies of gardening, reading walking and of course my greatest passions - drawing and painting.

Back in the seventies, I attended evening classes at Glasgow School of Art where I worked in oils, producing life studies and portraits. Since then I have continued with art classes regularly at Paisley Arts Centre and attending demonstrations at Paisley Artists Club.

Now I work in watercolour, ink, gouache and acrylic as well as oils. My choice of subjects is varied but my love of the beautiful Scottish scenery means that landscapes, and Scottish views in particular are among my favourite subjects for painting.

Being a member of Barrhead Art Club, and Paisley Artists which I joined nearly 25 years ago and where I have served both as secretary and president, means that I have exhibited often with these clubs as well as at Greenock Art Club, Port Glasgow Civic Art Exhibition and Holy Loch in Dunoon.

I have now joined another Art Club namely the 3Ls at Strathclyde University.

Many of my works are now in private collections both at home and abroad.
