Scottish Landscape Painting. Congratulations to Ayrshire member, Keith Salmon of Irvine on winning this year's £20,000 Jolomo Award for Scottish Landscape Painting. Keith and three runners-up received their Jolomo awards on Friday 12 June at the Presentation Dinner at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow.
More than 70 entries were received for the 2009 Jolomo Award for Scottish Landscape Painting. Four prize winners were anonymously selected from a shortlist of seven artists to share the total prize value of £30,000 - one of the UK’s largest privately funded painting prizes. In his Presentation address, John Lowrie Morrision spoke of Keith's 'intensely personal vision - a sheer poetry in expression and handling of materials' ... as any visitor to Keith's Courtyard studio at Harbour Street, Irvine, would readily attest to. Morrison also pointed to the short listed winning work for the Jolomo Awards as showing ''wonderful qualities of a personal vision of the Scottish landscape - an incredible range and variety of the handling of materials - and a real feeling for the qualities of paint'' - reassured that ''the future of Scottish landscape painting is in safe hands.''
