Apprenticeship Oppotunity to Artists with Autism We are due to open in Edinburgh’s New Town at 34 Northumberland Street, Edinburgh EH3 - end of March 2010. 'the gallery on the corner' aims to provide artists who have a disability, mental health problems - or those from a disadvantaged background, with a platform to exhibit and sell their artwork in a high profile location in the heart of Edinburgh’s gallery district. Four studio spaces beneath the commercial gallery are available for rental to practising artists who will work with apprentices with an Autism Spectrum Condition. 'the gallery on the corner' is the first social firm from Autism Ventures Scotland ... part of the Autism Initiatives Group established to create employment opportunities and experiences for young people with Autism Spectrum Condition in Scotland. Autism Ventures Scotland will be offering apprenticeships and other opportunities to 16-25 year olds with Autism Spectrum Condition in both retail and art practice. The apprenticeships will include on-the-job and vocational training, resulting in a recognised qualification. At 'the gallery on the corner' we will also sell crafts by indivdual artists and art groups that fit our selection criteria. We would like to hear from possible suppliers of artwork by such artists ... and from practising artists to rent our studio spaces ... and be involved in this rare, challenging and a potentially fulfilling venture.
