The Talbot Rice Gallery's policy is to develop and promote major exhibitions of work by Scottish and International Artists in a climate of learning, innovation and inclusion. The Gallery was established by the University of Edinburgh as a public access department in 1975 to show the University’s permanent collection and to house an important contemporary gallery showing temporary exhibitions.
Six or more exhibitions and education activities are developed each year in the White Gallery and the same number in the round room. The Red or Georgian space houses the University’s collections consisting principally of the Torrie colleciton of Old master paintings and bronzes.
